Architecture

Why a DLL instead of a managed PDF library?

Many production Windows systems still run Win32 services, VB6 tools, Delphi applications and mixed .NET estates. A COM DLL fits those environments without a new runtime, a new deployment model, or a rewrite.

  • Call from existing desktop, server and scripting code.
  • Deploy a small installer instead of a framework.
  • Keep Acrobat out of server images and locked-down desktops.
  • Use the same component from 32-bit and 64-bit builds.

FAQ

PDF SDK questions

What is a PDF SDK?
A PDF SDK is a set of libraries that let your application create, modify, protect or convert PDF files without automating a desktop PDF editor. AzSDK ships six focused components so you only deploy the capability you need.
Does the SDK work without Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. The components are standalone DLLs and do not require Acrobat or Reader on the target machine.
Which languages can call the PDF components?
Any COM-capable language: C#, VB.NET, VB6, Delphi, C++ Builder, Visual C++, ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, Python, Java, VBScript and others.
Can I redistribute the SDK with my application?
Yes. A valid license allows royalty-free distribution in an unlimited number of applications.
Are 64-bit applications supported?
Yes. Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds are available, and the components run in either process type.
